Crews investigating shooting, wreck on Interstate 20 Red River Bridge

By Bristol/TSM

Early morning motorists on I-20 westbound going through downtown Shreveport were caught by a surprise closing Thursday. I happened upon the detour on the way to work at 4:25 am before the traffic had a chance to back up. From my vantage point, I couldn’t see anything past the Red River bridge where we were stopped just prior to the Spring/Market Street exit. As of 5:20 am, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development website still shows traffic being diverted.

According to Erin McCarty from KEEL News, Shreveport Police are investigating a shooting on I-20 near Fairfield. Law enforcement confirmed that they have shut down I-20 westbound just past the Red River bridge in downtown Shreveport. A dispatcher also told McCarty that a car had run into the wall near the bridge. We don’t know if the two incidents are related. In the meantime, traffic continues to be re-routed. Please plan your morning travel accordingly.

This is a developing story that we will continue to update as information becomes available.
