NEW BERN, N.C. (WCTI) — A political action committee campaigning against North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn has released a video clip that appears to show the Republican naked in bed with another man, but Cawthorn has described it as, “Being crass with a friend” and “acting foolish.”
The video was released by the group American Muckrakers PAC.
After the video was posted on Twitter, Cawthorn tweeted, “A new hit against me just dropped. Years ago, in this video, I was being crass with a friend, trying to be funny. We were acting foolish, and joking. That’s it. I’m NOT backing down. I told you there would be a drip drip campaign. Blackmail won’t win. We will.”

Cawthorn, 26, is currently running for reelection in the May 17 primary.
The freshman congressman from North Carolina has been embroiled in several controversies in recent months.
At the end of April, he was cited for trying to take a loaded handgun through the TSA checkpoint at the Charlotte airport.
It wasn’t the first time he was caught with a gun in his luggage; February 2021, agents at the Asheville Regional Airport found an unloaded gun and a loaded magazine in Cawthorn’s carry-on bag. A Cawthorn spokesman said the congressman had brought the gun “by mistake.” Cawthorn was not charged.
In March, video surfaced that showed Cawthorn at an event in Asheville calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “thug” leading an “evil” government.
“Remember that Zelenskyy is a thug,” Cawthorn said in the video. “Remember that the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing woke ideologies.”
Also in March, according to a report from The Hill, Cawthorn claimed in a podcast that fellow lawmakers have invited him to sex parties and offered him cocaine.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Cawthorn later admitted the allegations were untrue.
In 2021, CNN reported on a series of allegations of sexual misconduct made against Cawthorn by women who said he behaved inappropriately toward them during his college years. Cawthorn has denied any wrongdoing.
